Demoscene Research is a collection of scientific material concerning the demo culture<\/a>, also known as the scene<\/em>. A major part of the page is an extensive bibliography of demo-related books, theses, articles and online material. We also maintain a list of researchers who have studied the scene. News and demo-related discussions are disseminated in the blog on the front page. There is also a related newsgroup, Demo Research<\/a>, where we post the most important news so that you can read and discuss them by email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antti Silvast<\/strong> has PhD in sociology from the University of Helsinki. His research interests include the sociology of risk, Science and Technology Studies, energy infrastructures, and social studies of finance. Currently Antti works as an associate professor at the Technical University of Denmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Markku Reunanen<\/strong>, also known as Marq in the scene circles, is a long-time programmer who occasionally wanders to the art domain as well. Markku works as a senior university lecturer at the Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture. In 2017 he completed his doctoral thesis called Times of Change in the Demoscene: A Creative Community and Its Relationship with Technology.<\/i> Portability, retro computers, Unix and open source are especially close to his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gleb J. Albert<\/strong> received his M.A. (2007) in History and Slavic Studies from the University of Cologne, and defended his PhD thesis in 2014 at Bielefeld University on internationalism in the early Soviet Union. Currently he is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich as part of the interdisciplinary research group “Media and Mimesis”<\/a>, where he conducts a project on the global history of software piracy as a subculture in the 1980s and early 1990s. He is a longtime co-organiser of the Evoke demoparty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
