Some dongles are just bad and some drivers are undoubtedly bad as well, in addition to which different manufacturers&#8217; implementations don&#8217;t always work together. Especially infuriating has been the huge lag in ping, which can jump\u00a0to a few seconds at its worst. It turns out that the drivers or dongles can&#8217;t be blamed for all of this, but <em>Gnome Network Manager<\/em> (&#8220;Network Connections&#8221;). See here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kameli.net\/marq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/bssid-bs.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4995 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.kameli.net\/marq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/bssid-bs.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.kameli.net\/marq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/bssid-bs.png 381w, http:\/\/www.kameli.net\/marq\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/bssid-bs-253x300.png 253w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 381px) 100vw, 381px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When there is no fixed BSSID set, Network Manager decides to do some occasional background scanning, which seems to slow the connection down to a crawl. Solution: choose a BSSID from the menu and it won&#8217;t.
