A work on `scenesĀ“

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Added an article by Michaela Pfadenhauer (2005), called Ethnography of Scenes. Towards a Sociological Life-world Analysis of (Post-traditional) Community-building. Probably there is lots of research being done on these kinds of scenes, and I think it is good for us to know that it exists. More description at the bibliography.

Three new markings

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Anders Carlsson has kindly sent us three links to texts about the demo scene. These are a book in Swedish about a hacker group, also available online (Svensson 1999); an introductory paper to the demo scene from a media art history conference in 2009 (Carlsson 2009); and a web report about visiting a demo party (Wehner 2010). Please head to the bibliography for a longer description of these.

Digital Retro

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Added Digital Retro. The Evolution and Design of the Personal Computer (Laing 2004) to related material. A book surely worth checking out — this kind of high-quality images of old computers have hardly been presented by any author.

More about the new site

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Direct links to the old version of the site have just stopped working, but in case you still need to access it for some reason you can still do it here. The old pages will not receive any updates in the future. We decided to drop the BibTeX version of the bibliography, since it was quite tiresome to maintain and saw little use. Old news items will not be transferred either.

A newly designed site

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

This weekend, we redesigned our Demoscene Research site from 2004 to run on top of WordPress. As part of this shift, our site finally also has a blog.

As of now, you can navigate to the old content of the Demoscene Research site from the side bar. Please head to the About page if you are unfamiliar with our project.

Note also that the page is currently still under construction. We would be happy to hear about bugs, mistakes, omissions etc.
